Meta has reintroduced job listings on Facebook, marking a return to one of its earliest local-commerce experiments. The feature, called Local Jobs, is now live for users in the United States, allowing employers to post openings directly through Facebook Marketplace and Business Pages.
The rollout signals Meta’s renewed interest in connecting local businesses with jobseekers, eight years after its original hiring tools first appeared in 2017. Those early features were later discontinued as Meta shifted focus toward Groups and e-commerce. The new version takes a narrower approach, emphasizing local, entry-level, and trade work rather than professional or remote roles typically found on LinkedIn.
Job listings are integrated into Marketplace and may also appear in relevant Facebook Groups or company Pages. Meta said users must be 18 or older to view or apply, and that stricter moderation policies will prevent misuse. Certain job types, such as adult services or in-person childcare, are explicitly banned.
The company stated that this release is currently limited to the United States, with no timeline yet announced for expansion to other markets. By focusing first on U.S. small businesses, Meta appears to be testing user interest and compliance mechanisms before extending the service globally.
Industry analysts note that the move positions Facebook to compete with community-driven recruiting platforms and local job boards rather than traditional professional networks. It also revives a debate over data privacy and equal access: earlier iterations of Facebook’s job tools faced criticism for allowing employers to exclude candidates based on age or gender. Meta now says these discriminatory targeting options have been removed.
If successful, Facebook’s new job listings could re-establish the platform as a hub for local employment, an area where engagement has remained steady despite broader declines in social media usage.
