Amazon just announced a new round of layoffs affecting about 14,000 corporate positions as part of an ongoing restructuring to simplify its management layers and focus on artificial intelligence investments.

In an internal memo published on its corporate site, Beth Galetti, Senior Vice President of People Experience and Technology, said the cuts are intended to make Amazon “more nimble” and ensure resources are directed toward its biggest growth areas. Employees affected will receive 90 days to seek internal roles, with support from recruitment teams. Those who leave will be offered severance pay, health coverage, and outplacement assistance.

“The reductions we’re sharing today are a continuation of this work to get even stronger by further reducing bureaucracy, removing layers, and shifting resources,” Galetti wrote.

While today’s announcement covers around 14,000 roles, some reports suggest the total could eventually reach up to 30,000, roughly 4 percent of Amazon’s corporate workforce of about 350,000. The company said it will continue hiring in strategic areas, especially in AI and product development.

Chief Executive Andy Jassy has repeatedly described Amazon’s goal of operating like “the world’s largest startup,” emphasizing faster decision-making, greater ownership, and a leaner structure. The company’s latest cuts reflect this shift as it invests heavily in generative AI and automation to accelerate innovation across its retail, cloud, and logistics operations.

Despite the layoffs, Amazon reported strong performance in its latest quarter and said the changes will help it “move as quickly as possible for our customers and business.”
