The number of job vacancies advertised through UWV’s platform rose sharply over the past year, with 267,089 open positions reported in August 2025, up from 170,222 in August 2024. Technical, care, and logistics roles account for the largest increases, according to the latest UWV data.
While the surge in advertised vacancies signals acute demand for technical and care roles, these figures reflect only positions visible on UWV’s public job platform. The true extent of the labour market, especially for high-skill or specialist jobs, is likely broader and may follow different trends.
In August 2025, technical vacancies advertised via UWV’s werk.nl platform reached 83,948, an increase of 66% compared to the same month last year. Care and welfare roles saw the sharpest rise, more than doubling from 13,206 in 2024 to 27,391 in 2025.
The most frequently advertised positions remain operational and practical: warehouse staff, mechanics, truck drivers, and logistics planners consistently top the listings. This surge in advertised vacancies was seen across nearly all job categories, but the demand for technical and care workers stands out as particularly acute in the latest UWV figures.
Growth was seen nationwide, but was most pronounced in Amsterdam and Rotterdam regions, both of which saw advertised vacancies rise by more than 60% compared to last year.
It is not immediately clear what is driving the sharp rise in vacancies listed via UWV. Possible factors include increased difficulty in filling essential roles, prompting more employers to advertise through UWV, or a change in how actively UWV aggregates and publishes vacancies from external sources. Further research is needed to determine whether this increase reflects real growth in job openings, a shift in recruitment practices, or changes in reporting by UWV itself.
Data note: This dataset does not cover the entire Dutch labour market. Most listed roles are submitted directly to UWV or collected from selected external sources. Highly skilled or specialized positions are often not included, as they are filled through channels not tracked by UWV.
